Selecting the Current Rating of the Meter
All Amprobe KWH meters are supplied with industry standard 5A secondary solid
core current transformers (CT's) in order to conform to ANSI standards. The use
of split core transformers are not recommended in watt-hour metering because of
the inaccuracies that may result from the excessive phase shift caused by the
split CT's themselves, particularly at light loads.
The selection of the current rating of the meter should correspond to the
maximum current rating of the panel to be measured or to the current interrupt
device of the load to be measured.
The number before the "A" in the model number is the maximum current
rating in hundreds of amps. i.e. 1=1 OOA, 2=200A, 4=400A etc. To select the
maximum current rating of the meter, insert a number before the "A"
in the model number. The number of CT's provided with the meter is 1 less than
the amount of wires; a 2-wire meter will have one CT, a 3-wire meter will have
two CT's, a 4-wire meter will have 3 CT's. Multiplier
To obtain the amount of kilowatt-hour or
"Peak" Demand in kilowatts, the meter readout must be multiplied by
an associated multiplier that is stamped on every meter. The multiplier is
simply the CT ratio. A "lOOa meter would come with 100A:5A CTs and would
have a multiplier of 20. A 200A meter would come with 200A:5A CTs and would
have a multiplier of 40 and so on.
Fuses
All meter voltage connections should be fused
and installed on conformance to the NEC and local electrical codes. We
recommend using 3A in line fast blow at the rated voltage (not supplied). Fuses
must be installed for warranty to be honored. If you are interested in the AMPROBE WH-3T15A3W or items similar to it, please do not hesitate to contact us for more information.
